Description
Responsibilities include daytoday support for the UNIX/Linux Operating System, various operational utilities and server hardware, providing the technical support for assigned environments. Responsible for coordinating required changes or changes requested by clients to minimize business impact. Understand and follow operational processes and policies. Work with 1st level support to ensure timely, effective incident resolution. System Administrators maintain their technical knowledge by attending appropriate training, and seeking out areas of interest to improve the skills within the team. This is a rotating oncall position (7x24). Detailed description System Administrator provides technical support for fully operational, enterprise server solutions that meet availability objectives. Provides the implementation expertise to effectively deliver productive system solutions per documented standards that meet business requirements. Participates on crossfunctional teams, utilizing technical knowledge, problem assessment, and strong communication skills to provide timely resolution to enterprise server issues. Works directly with the Technical Services teams to understand, plan, and develop implementation strategies for new technologies and business solutions. Maintains technical aptitude by seeking and attending appropriate training to enhance skill set in preparation for the new technology implementation challenges at 3M. Responsibilities and Deliverables Server Installation and Maintenance Owns primary responsibility for installation/configuration, upgrades and patches of all hardware, operating system, and operational utilities on UNIX/Linux systems Adheres to documented, approved standards Plans and coordinates infrastructure requests to accommodate server requests. Monitors, schedules, and implements server storage expansions, as required for client needs Coordinates and plans with other support groups and vendors to provide emergency and scheduled maintenance in an effective timeframeMeasures baseline of server performance and security analysis Provides research, communicates, and implements Best Practices for server tuning Facilitates inventory management Gathers and documents system information Maintains accurate system informational databasesSkills required 12 years Technical Support, showing strong analytical skills 36 years of HP UX Operating System support 36 years of Linux (Redhat preferred) Operating System support Participation on crossfunctional teams Strong troubleshooting skills, fault isolation and resolution. 36 years of systems support/troubleshooting experience Clustering (GFS/Oracle Rac) SAN InfrastructureEVA/NetApp VMWare Veritas Netbackup/Backup Exec Scripting knowledge (Shell and Perl preferred) HP and Dell hardware experience HP Blades Remedy application and processes McAfee SAP experience a plus Education/certification Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent Dell Hardware Certification HP Hardware Certification HP Blade Certification
