ProjectDescription The NYSP Network Support Section is responsible for theacquisition, management and maintenance of the core LAN/WAN Architecturesupporting 6,500 NYSP employees and approximately 300 sites.The network infrastructureincludes all core VPN/Firewall, routers, L2/L3 switching, Wireless, fiber,and copper infrastructure.It is theresponsibility ofNetwork SupportSectionto insure that allIT resources are available 24 x 7 x 365.The consultantswillwork closely with NYSP Staff providing Network support and design for theasbuilt LAN/WAN/MAN and for network improvements and enhancements.Network Specialist IIIs willcontribute to project proposals and serve as project team members; andevaluate latest technologies from industry vendors in the marketplace.These are Senior level technical positions with the expectation theincumbents will possess indepth understanding of the OSI model; wirelessnetworking; Point to Point and Point to MultiPoint IP deliverytechnologies to end users; NAT traversal, and VPN and IP tunneling;experience working with service providers for testing and troubleshootingvarious connections; extensive experience with IP routing protocolsincluding BGP, OSPF and RIP II; broad understanding of WAN protocolsPPP, Frame Relay, MPLS, and DSL;experience with signaling protocols for Voice over IP and IP Videoconferencing including SIP and H323 a plus;and familiarity with 802.1x endpoint security.Fiscal year initiatives and projects include contrinuousimprovement of the threetier DMZ includingupgrade and replacement, F5BIG IP Load balancer implementation, wireless connectivity with networkaccess control and an upcoming project implementing Computer AidedDispatch (CAD) to the troop car and Automated Vehicle Location (AVL).Implementation of CAD/AVL will provide dispatchers with amapped display of the current location of a marked patrol vehicle.CAD/AVL components essentiallyconsist of the following; a GPS receiver, a transmitter (generally viaradio or commercial cellular provider), a network server, and computerpositions to view the CAD/AVL data.Invehicle mapping software will also be made available enablingunits to see each others location realtime.Remote access to the incarcomputer and external secure access to other critical NYSP systems will beprovided.
