Description
Job Description The Windows Systems Engineer (Contract) for Windows Core Services serves as a technology owner for ongoing activities related to Microsoft Windows Server operating systems and hardware. He or she evaluates, designs and deploys both physical and virtual infrastructure systems to establish and enhance core Windows Server services and related components; and, evaluates and develops relevant standards and best practices to insure that servers and services are available, extensible and efficient. This position reports to the Manager of Windows Core Services. Responsibilities Design, deploy, and support Microsoft Windows Server infrastructure to support the business. Design, deploy, and support VMware ESX host and related virtual machines. Interface with customers, peers and managers to evaluate and understand business needs. Evaluate, propose and document standards and best practices related to hardware and operating systems, their implementation, maintenance, security and administration. Perform and assist others with troubleshooting of issues and problems, and provide coaching and mentoring to juniorlevel team members. Maintain and increase knowledge and proficiency of appropriate technical competencies and propose ideas to the team and management that improve efficiency or effectiveness. Collaborate and consult with key technical staff to design solutions that meet business requirements. Serve as a project resource to successfully complete assigned tasks on time and on budget. Represent the team or group at technical and status meetings as required. Liaise with other technical team leads, architects and managers on project scope, cost, and technical designs. Work with vendors to evaluate products and solutions that might improve or enhance the services provide by the group. Prepare and assist with business case documentation for capital investments in new technologies. Domestic travel to customer sites/locations to gather design and requirements. Prepare and deliver status reports for current activities and projects. Review and assist with backup and disaster recovery design and planning, and participate in regular recovery plan testing. Other duties as required and/or requested by management. Qualifications BS in Technology related field or equivalent work experience. Minimum of five to seven years of progressive experience in Microsoft Windows Server 2000/2003/2018, Intelbased hardware and Microsoft Systems Management Server. Demonstrable advanced, seniorlevel knowledge of Windows Server software and hardware, including but not limited to Standard and Enterprise editions of Windows Server (2000/2003/2018) VMware ESX 3.x and 4.x 32bit and 64bit hardware platforms Server storage (RAID, SATA, SAS, SAN Attached) Clustering services Terminal services and remote desktop Windows Server security Windows TCP/IP networking including DHCP and DNS System performance monitoring and optimization Capacity management Excellent communications skills and proficiency with business productivity tools such as Microsoft Office. Must be able to pass all appropriate background checks.
