Summary Web Engineer for customerfacing sites and applicationsDetail Working alongside a talented team, you will deploy and support missioncritical web sites and applications for businesses within McGrawHill Education, running on Apache, WebLogic, JBoss, Tomcat, Perl or PHP platforms. You will also support backoffice computing environments on internal networks. Using your years of production experience and excellent communication skills, you will help develop policies and coordinate with your counterparts in Operations, Database Administration, Storage, and Networking organizations.A Qualified Candidate . can troubleshoot problems quickly, effectively and creatively . has the ability to analyze a problem at a system level and determine the root cause at a technical (detailed) level . has the ability to learn and apply new technologies quickly to solve technical problems . has the ability to interact with nontechnical colleagues and communicate in layman's terms . has production experience supporting and deploying to web application servers such as Oracle BEA WebLogic Server 9 and 10, Red Hat JBoss server, Apache Tomcat server, . has production experience supporting Apache web server, Java, Python, JProfiler and WLST scripting, JRocket Mission Control, COGNOS . is proficient in Java / Python / other justintime compiled language . has at least 5 years experience administering UNIX in production environments, and 3 years or more on Red Hat Linux . has strong shell scripting skills . has networking experience, especially in DMZ environments . has experience in performance tuning and analysis . has excellent communication skills and produces clear documentation . has the ability to selfmanage time and multiple constraints in a rapidly changing, highpressure and complex technical environment . has a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science and/or related field or equivalent experience Essential Duties and Responsibilities . As part of a team, support both publicfacing and internal web sites and applications. Responsibilities include oncall support, troubleshooting, incident notification and resolution, problem management, postmortem analysis, and root cause identification.. Interact with and coordinate activities of crossfunctional teams, including development, system administration, database administration, network engineering and operations center staff.. As part of a team, support approximately 400 Red Hat Enterprise Linux servers and 150 Sun Solaris servers . Deploy publicfacing web applications . Automate recurring tasks . Write clear documentation . Help develop policies and best practices . Respond to afterhours emergencies on a rotation basis . Proactively identify gaps and look to improve overall system availability Technical Requirements . Must be able to work 95% of the time on the UNIX / Linux command line . Two or more Oracle BEA WebLogic Application Server 8.x/9.x/10.x, Apache Tomcat, Red Hat JBoss . Two or more Java, Python, JProfiler and WLST scripting, JRocket Mission Control, COGNOS . Apache web server 1.x and 2.x . UNIX shell scripting . Perl scripting . Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4/5 . Solaris 2.8, 2.9, 10 . Working knowledge of the following Protocols and Standards HTTP, SSL, CGI, JSP, NFS, LDAP, NIS
