Description
1. Monitor and diagnose problems with all telecommunications infrastructures (i.e., SONET, DWDM, microwave, data network, telephone systems, radio, and other wireless systems). Use network management tools and problems solving skills to restore service. Dispatch and work with field technicians as required to restore service. Report and manage outages with other service providers. Effectively utilize problem/change management systems to document problems and activities performed during the course of service restoration. 2. Perform testing and turnup of new circuits for internal and external customers using network management tools and through the coordination with field technicians. Coordinate with customers to test and turnup circuits endtoend across companies. 3. Provide excellent customer service to customers inside and outside the company. This includes notifying customers of outages observed with monitoring systems, responding to tickets from the Duke Energy Enterprise Help Desk, providing customers with regular status updates, followingup with customers after problem resolution to ensure services are restored, and escalating issues internally as needed. This is a telecom position in the NOC Basic Qualifications 1. Two or four year electronic or computer engineering degree or equivalent telecommunications/data networking work experience. 2. Basic computer skills including demonstrable working knowledge of Word and Excel applications. (continued in 'Order Comments') DOES NOT NEED SERVER OR DATA NETWORK FOR THESE ROLES MORE TELECOM EXP IN THE NOC 3. Strong technical and analytical skills with a. Basic knowledge of telecommunications fundamentals b. Working knowledge of transport equipment (SONET, DWDM, DACS, etc.) or data network equipment (routers, switches, hubs, etc.) c. Ability to monitor and troubleshoot alarms on transport equipment and data network equipment. d. Ability to perform testing and turnup of circuits on transport equipment and data network equipment. 4. Strong communications, negotiation, and influencing skills, and demonstrated ability to communicate clearly. 5. Demonstrated ability to work responsibly with minimal supervision and where considerable freedom to act is given. Demonstrated ability to work in stressful environment and prioritize tasks. 6. Strong desire for self development and continuous improvement. Ability to mentor and to be mentored by other technical professionals. 7. Demonstrated ability to work well as a member of a large team that works in close proximity and to exhibit mutual respect to users, team members and management. 8. Familiarity with circuit management systems and ticket management systems (Piccaso)
