Description
Client is looking for a seasoned Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) DBA to join the team to assist in the architectural design, development, optimization and support of the enterprise data warehouse infrastructure. As our Lead EDW DBA will be responsible for supporting and managing the enterprisewide Teradata implementation in production and development environments. This position will play a key role as a member of the EDM (Enterprise Data Management) team, and will work closely with a small group of DBAs that are responsible for the management and support of a variety of databases (Oracle, SQL Server and Teradata). This position will be focused on the Teradata data warehouse environment, and will act as a primary contact for both the Data Management and Business Intelligence teams. Essential Functions/Responsibilities Administration of Teradata database environment Provide DBA support to team for development and production deployment efforts Monitor database performance, system utilization, configuration, growth / capacity planning Administration, maintenance and implementation of controls and security policies, access permissions Assist in design and implementation of physical and logical iterations of database instances Maintain database documentation (data definitions, standards, metadata definitions) Ensures that mission critical databases and devices are available and operating with minimal downtime Design, implement and maintain a comprehensive backup and disaster recovery plan that encompasses data warehousing best practices and design guidelines Evaluate, install and test new software releases, patches and system upgrades Manage communication with Teradata on debugging efforts and trouble tickets Must have a working knowledge designing, developing and manipulating databases, data warehouses and multidimensional databases. Mentor and train other project staff Supervisory Responsibility Job may include supervisory responsibility for several IT DBAs. Responsibilities include providing input on employee evaluations, approving any absences or overtime, hiring, terminations, pay changes, job changes, and training. Specific Job Skills 7 + years IT / MIS experience and at least 5 years experience of data warehouse design and implementation 5+ years as a Teradata administrator Experience with Teradata data loading utilities Familiarity with EDW data modeling practices / tools (3NF / ERwin) Proficiency in scripting tools helpful (Shell / Perl etc.) Experience with Data Warehouse lifecycles and methodologies Experience in managing large database instances (10 + TB) Familiarity with Informatica / IBM Cognos applications a plus Ability to gather system design requirements, design and write system specifications Ability to understand / debug complex SQL queries Will be expected to be available for oncall response in order to provide 24x7 emergency response capabilities. Must have strong communication skills, proactive problem solver Sound judgment and decisionmaking, and the appropriate sense of urgency
