QA Performance Engineer

Description

The primary function of the QA Performance Engineer is to create performance tests (scripts) for validating existing and newly developed software applications on Windows and Linux platforms. This includes planning, writing and executing test cases as well as analyzing derived results. The QA Performance Engineer will work closely with Business Analysts, Product Managers and customers to extract functional and performance related requirements as input to project deliverables. This position also works closely with software engineering teams (Developers, Architects and DBAs) to review & debug application code, perform tuning activities, and develop creative Performance testing solutions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This position requires a creativeminded, yet highly technical, individual who is receptive to taking direction from his or her Team Lead & Manager. This person requires the ability to build advanced load scenarios which mimic various activities occurring within a given application environment. Scripting skills are mandatory, as we often encounter situations where the test tool cannot perform the necessary actions without custom code being added. Coordinate and manage all testing activities assigned by the Performance & Automation Team Lead. This includes task planning & estimation, status reporting, metrics collection, developing test summaries & risk analyses. Work closely with QA engineers, developers, architects and DBAs to create meaningful Performance tests Write Performance test cases, plans and scripts and test harnesses as required Maintains and updates the Performance test strategy Uses LoadRunner and custom C scripting to record and execute scripts Provides Performance testing assistance to Development and Technical Operations community by performing tuning activities for various hardware, OS, network and application troubleshooting and analysis initiatives. Review existing manual tests and analyze where Performance testing will provide maximum ROI Report issues via defect tracking application and coordinates with developers and Project Managers on resolution. Participate in business & technical requirement reviews for assigned projects Verify that software and applications perform according to specifications Conduct test case reviews with peers, Software Engineers and Development Managers Fosters a collaborative work environment encompassing all phases of software development MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or a related field or equivalent work experience Certification preferred, but not required (CSQA, CSTE, CSQE, CTM, CSTP, etc.) Recent Load/Performance Testing experience, with primary job function as Performance testing 2+ years in manual software testing 3+ years testing applications using HewlettPackard/Mercury testing tools (LoadRunner, Quick Test Professional, Quality Center) 2+ years of Programming / Scripting (C, C#, JavaScript, VBScript) Demonstrated knowledge of SQL Server, query building and data extraction tools
