Linux System Engineer

Description

Position Summary Perform installation, configuration, maintenance and monitoring of all Linux systems. He/She will be a part of Technical Services/Infrastructure and will work closely with internal application development to support daily operations and develop strategies to improve availability and utilization of Linux environments and applications running on the Linux platform.Responsibilities Handle day to day administration and engineering of the Linux environment including system monitoring, administration, upgrades and disaster recovery Install new servers according to security and server policies. Develop and Implement administration standards and procedures for standardization and simplification Integrating Red Hat Enterprise Server with Active Directory Monitor patch releases and make sure all servers are patched with up to date. Performance tuning of Red Hat in VMWare Perform system backups of Linux servers Provide input to the policies and procedures related to use, setup, administration, support, monitoring, security, and backup Support 24x7x365 data center operations Support internal development and productionCore Competencies to be Successful Strong technical skills balanced with strong analytical skills Customer/Quality focus Teamwork/Collaboration Requirements Strong experience in a Linux environment supporting business critical systems. Advanced knowledge of Red Hat Linux Enterprise Server Experience with Active Directory and Red Hat integration Experience with Red Hate Network Satellite A solid understanding of the operating system; understands paging and swapping, interprocess communications, devices and what device drivers do, filesystem concepts (inode, clustering, logical partitions), can use performance analysis to tune systems. A solid understanding of networking/distributed computing environment concepts. Familiarity with security and hardening of servers and obtaining authorization to operate. Documentation of Data Center configurations. Experience with virtualization specifically VM Ware Perl or other scripting language. Understanding of the TCP/IP Suite (TCP, UDP, IP, ICMP, etc.) as well as the network management protocol, SNMP. Clustering (Red Hat, Oracle RAC). Oracle Enterprise Linux would be very preferred Experience with Wintel and virtualization would be a strong plus
