STATISTICAL ANALYST

Task Description Our client seeks a statistical analyst primarily responsible for their claims Database. This database is a new initiative to collect claims data from all major health insurers to support health policy analysis. The audience for the database reports is legislators, the public, and health care providers and stakeholders. This position is an opportunity to have significant impact on health policy in Tennessee through the management of a powerful new data source. Critical thinking skills, personal initiative, and the ability to work effectively with multiple teams will be key to success in this position. Applicants should have experience communicating technical concepts related to data and statistics to audiences of diverse experience ranging from data experts as well to people with no knowledge in these areas. Main duties Write code using SAS to generate statistical analyses of the database on subjects such as incidence of disease, health care utilization, and health care spending. Design and write public report documents derived from statistical analyses. Manage relationships with contractors collecting data and contractors managing the data. Track the compliance of major Tennessee insurance companies that are required to submit data to the APCD. Coordinate regulation of these data submitters with The Department of Commerce and Insurance. Provide support for the Tennessee Health Information Committee, a nineteenmember board of stakeholders with oversight over APCD data elements and public reports. Required Skills 2 yrs experience communicating technical concepts related to data and statistics to audiences of diverse experience ranging from data experts as well to people with no knowledge in these areas. 2 yrs extensive experience using SAS (preferred) for statistical analysis (other analytic software packages such as SPSS or STATA may be acceptable based on interview). 3 yrs experience in data analysis, data management, or data reporting. Bachelorslevel degree in statistics, epidemiology, mathematics, or public policy preferred (health policy a plus). Experience working with health insurance claims data is preferred. Must hold a BA/BS degree. (advanced degree a plus)
