Systems Support Engineer

Description

Perform and/or coordinate installations and upgrades to the z/OS mainframe software, database and storage products and tools.Provide 24x7 support for z/OS systems (operating system and related systems software), DB2 databases and DB2related applications and mainframe storage (disk and tape).Responsible for managing/driving serviceimpacting issues and problems to resolution.Provide technical guidance to internal contacts in the design of infrastructure solutions that meet business needs and perform to engineered specifications.Identify, define and implement improvements to the z/OS systems, database and storage environments and related support activities and practices.Manage the delivery of solutions to operations.Provide proactive analysis of Visa complex core systems and applications to detect potential problems and make preventive corrections.Provide database administration support to application teams including consulting and QA review services.Support the production implementation of mainframe applications including the development and implementation of backup and recovery strategies.Develop and/or provide training for database access strategies and SQL coding.Develop, promote and support data management concepts and processes.Conduct quarterly DB2 database TSR reviews and support production database TSR remediation activities.Perform database backup and recovery when necessary.Maintain all supported batch jobs relating to z/OS system, DB2 database and storage.College degree or equivalent work experienceTypically requires7 years experience in mainframe environment; z/OS, DB2, SQL and related storage.Experience in an application hosting or data center environment.Experience with maintaining highly available and highly secure systems.Strong process orientation and a solid understanding of software development and testing techniques, methodologies and best practices are the primary requisite for this position.Ability to work independently, coordinating activities within crossregional and crossfunctional teams.
