Description
Minimum Requirements Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, plus a minimum five (5) years related work experience with project management, software development or system support; OR a Masters degree, plus two (2) years related experience; strong nondegree candidates with significant demonstrated experience may be considered.An Associate level of Cisco Certifications is preferred.Previous experience and functionally competent with network design, operational support, handson implementation, configuration and troubleshooting of networking devices such as Unified communications, firewalls, routers, and switches; Cisco experience required.Competency in Cisco router and switch operating software for IOS environments at current release levels is required.A good working knowledge of Cisco call manager, Unity, and other VoIP related equipment.Knowledge of standard switch and routing protocols (HSRP, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP) in an enterprise environment is a plus.Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise.Ability to communicate technical information to nontechnical personnel.Possess professional communication skills while maintaining a friendly, courteous and helpful disposition with coworkers, management and customers regardless of provocation.Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.Ability to plan and guide the development, installation, maintenance, and repair of network systems.Ability to identify and resolve computer system malfunctions and operational problems.Knowledge of all aspects of network services facilities.Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures.Have and maintain a valid Drivers License.Work may take place in all District locations and/or facilities, including motor vehicles. Specific Responsibilities In order to effectively contribute to the objectives of the District, the Network Specialist is accountable and responsible to Analyze District needs regarding the use of network equipment and services; provide planning, leadership, direction and technical expertise regarding local and wide area network services.Participate in strategic and longrange planning for network services.Identify and coordinate all enterprise network services.Provide advice and assistance while serving as a key resource person to Information Technology staff concerning network services facilities.Provide technical oversight, assignment, supervision and review of work performed by team members; may lead or guide the work of other staff engaged in similar functions and/or temporary employees.Maintain current knowledge with respect to relevant stateoftheart technology, equipment, and/or systems.Serve as technical specialist in network problems and emergencies; assist in troubleshooting and resolution of network production problems.Available to support critical systems 24x7x365.Perform miscellaneous jobrelated duties as assigned.Understand and comply with all pertinent District Safety Standards.Fulfill responsibilities common to all Supervisory, Professional and Administrative positions as stated.
