Baltimore County Public Schools Job Description The ideal candidate must possess the following Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of software development best practices.At least five years of experience in software development using SQL queries and stored procedures to create new interfaces that replace legacy COBOL interfaces.Knowledge of COBOL programming and ability to read and decipher COBOL to generate program logic specifications.Degree from an accredited college with a bachelors degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Project Management, Business or Public Administration, Communications or a related field. May be substituted with relevant softwaredevelopment experience of 10 or more years. Responsibilities Assists in the design and development of SQL queries and stored procedures for replacing legacy COBOL programs.Ensures that projects are completed in accordance with established scope, deadlines, budgets, and technical standards.Follows all required software development standard, change control procedures, and security requirements.As required will builds relationships with project sponsors, stakeholders, other technical staff, vendors, and end users.Assists in the formulation of business and testing requirements.Coordinates and performs required unit, system and performance testing.Works with other team members on User Acceptance testing and issue resolution.Maps current AS IS business processes and facilitates workshops to research future TO BE processes.Participates in continuous improvement activities by identifying and analyzing the effectiveness and efficiency of existing processes and develops strategies for improvements.Produces status reports and communications on a regular basis. Required Skills Skill in developing SQL based interfaces using queries and stored procedures.Microsoft SQL Server experience is preferred.Skill in designing and documenting automated processes.Skill in the operation of computers and peripheral equipment.Knowledge and understanding in application and system programming.Knowledge and understanding of COBOL programming language.Knowledge of personal computers, Microsoft Office suite of tools including; Word,Excel, PowerPoint, Visio and MS Project.Knowledge of programming concepts and the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC).Effective verbal and written communication skillsAbility to analyze and evaluate the feasibility and suitability of information technology projects.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.Ability to coordinate the work of a team with the work of other units within theOffice of Information Technology and County agencies.Experience with developing solutions for ERP applications and interfaces is preferred
