EA Genomics, a division of Q2 Solutions, is a premier genomic services organization, excelling in implementing technologies and services to accelerate research in complex human diseases and the optimal treatment and diagnosis thereof. The software infrastructure for analysis and processing in support of those services makes use of a combination of opensource and custombuilt, specialized application software. Our automated workflows for sequencing data analysis use a high performance computing Linux cluster and AWS to enhance computing needs across geographic regions. The Translational Genomics group includes bioinformaticians and software engineers that develop automated DNA and RNA analysis utilities and workflows. New members of the group are expected to have an immediate impact on current activities and help to define the direction we take as we grow. DIRECTIVESFlexibility. You will be part of an organization that prides itself with its ability to quickly adapt and adjust to the needs of our clients. You will need to communicate with people who do not have software and systems as a primary background. You will be asked to perform tasks that are outside of your comfort zone with the goal to build new tools and systems suitable compatible for multiple teams.Pragmatism. You should not reinvent the wheel or develop something from scratch when you can adapt an existing tool. There will always be something you can use that someone else developed, with several hundred programs/tools in our current library. You will often need to interface with legacy systems alongside contemporary systems. You will have to balance risk and reward to fit your solution into a scheduled deadline that was set without your input.Curiosity. We hire engineers and teach them bioinformatics. You may learn things about molecular biology, algorithms, genomics and Nextgen sequencing, and data analysis every week. You may need to understand standard data formats and how they are used to understand how you can support the group. You will get to know the needs of our customers, the research performed by your coworkers, and bioinformatics details about every project you work on.Quality Control. We have a unique Quality environment where our laboratory and the systems supporting it spread the gamut of Research Use Only (RUO to Diagnostic (Dx). Our systems providing patient testing have quality expectation that must be followed by our software systems and build. You will be expected to adhere to these but also identify mechanisms of process improvement as electronic systems support of laboratory developed tests are not fully flushedRESPONSIBILITIESSupport the development of a comprehensive build mechanism for creation and deployment of software, systems and environments to bare metal, virtual machines, and cloud platforms.Support the development of processes, tools, and training materials for users to interface with the build mechanism.Evaluate current build tools and utilities to identify value and shortcomings.Perform system administration as necessary tasks to support the build mechanism.Improve the build mechanism to support continuous integration, standardized unit testing, and continuous validation.Apply formal software engineering methodologies to develop highly dependable solutions.Support a regular cadence for deployment of software releases into production.Work with software engineers, bioinformaticians, test engineers, project managers, and business analysts to support custom projects and enterprise products. Deliver requested information, documentation, and tools on a timely basis, and report status in support of scheduled timelines.
