Essential Roles and Responsibilities
Guide and coach the Scrum team on how to use and improve our Agile/Scrum practices.
Lead the teams to experiment and iterate on Scrum process improvements.
Assess the Scrum maturity of the team and organization; coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the organization.
Support a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame or retribution, with an emphasis of rootcause, problemsolving, and improving.
Facilitate sprint planning and retrospectives, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Mentor the Scrum team in the identification and elimination of impediments.
Facilitate getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating.
Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution.
Assist with internal communication, improving transparency, and radiating information.
Support the product owners in grooming and clarifying the product backlog.
Coordinate with internal resources, clients, partners and third parties, as needed.
Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; participating in professional organizations; and pursuing certifications, where applicable.
Accept ownership for accomplishing new requests; explore opportunities to add value to the organization.
Expected Skills and Competencies
Experience as Scrum Master for software development team.
Experience being on multiple Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different cultures, colocated vs. distributed, etc.).
Excellent internal communication skills, both written and verbal.
Possess highlevel communication skills by expressing thoughts and information clearly and succinctly using proper business English and correct grammar.
Communicates information in a tactful and positive manner at all times.
Solid organizational skills including attention to detail, facilitation, and multitasking.
Connects with both technical and nontechnical people at all levels of the organization.
Works independently, and with a team, in an open office environment.
Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency.
Knowledge of numerous, welldocumented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (examples burndown techniques, retrospective approaches, sprint planning techniques, handling bugs).
Knowledge of other approaches in the Agile space SAFe, XP, Kanban, Crystal, FDD, etc.
Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques user stories, ATDD, TDD, continuous integration, continuous testing, pairing, automated testing, etc.
