Position Description
The DevOps Architect will lead a team of Dev Ops Engineers to build software, tools and automation supporting daily operational support to Comtechs Enterprise Technologies division. Manages a portfolio of multiple projects, set priorities with measurable objectives.
Responsibilities
Responsible for automation/tool development, release automation, capacity planning and performance improvement
Contribute to the tools and automation codebase as required
Effectively communicate status to senior management and program office
Design and implement complex IT systems, including network, server and database interaction
Awareness and proficiency in leading decisions that improve application availability, scalability and security
Administer all Linux servers (mainly EL), including creation of scripts and tools to cover system admin tasks
Provide technical direction to engineering teams and portfolios in cloud migration. Understand their business and technical challenges, and to architect, get an agreement and develop the most optimal and reusable solutions
Manage the deployment, configuration, monitoring, maintenance, upgrade, and support of all application IT systems, including servers, network, Linux distributions, operating systems, hardware, software, and peripherals
Setup required environments for development, Integration testing, QA, and Staging and manage the allocation and scheduling of available resources
Establish rules and processes for code checkin, branching and merging of code, passing criteria for each development stage
Review, evaluate, recommend and develop objectives, policies and procedures to ensure that systems are meeting the needs of business functions
Document and maintain system and application deployment document, including software inventory and deployment diagrams
Design and implement monitoring strategy and capabilities for applications and services
Communicate with customers, IT professionals, and developers in the analysis and resolution of build and deployment situations
Develop and maintain a comprehensive set of application deployment patterns and all supporting documentation required to keep a production application running.
Keep up to date with latest technologies and tools, evangelize their value within the team and mentor other developers to implement solutions in the best possible way
Qualifications
10 years minimum of industry experience, both as individual contributor in a systems administration/engineering, DevOps role or engineering manager
5 years minimum experience managing the development of a hosted online automation, tools and services
7+ years of scripting skills, such as but not limited to Bash, Ruby, and Python
Unix/Linux, TCP/IP, networking, systems programming and administration proficiency required
Experience working with server side infrastructure within a Linux environment (e.g. DNS, SSH, Apache, NGINX, Varnish, etc.)
Experience with AWS (Amazon Web Services) or Public Cloud is a plus
Knowledge of automation and configuration management tools such as Puppet, Chef, CFEngine, Ansible
Experience with SNMP is preferred (Simple Network Management Protocol)
EL certifications a plus
AWS Certifications a plus
Experience with common online protocols HTTP, SSL, DNS, SNMP, DHCP, TCP
Proficient service architecture skills
Ability to multitask and manage tasks with varying priorities
Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or equivalent experience
