Top Three Skills 3 to 5 years Oracle Data base production and maintenance support. 11G experience needed. 3 to 5 years working in a Linux/Unix OS environment
2 years experience with MSSQL Job Description Provide all levels of database management and maintenance for Oracle and SQL Server databases. Primary Responsibilities With specific direction, designs, implements, and maintains complex databases with respect to organization, access methods, access time, validation checks, stored procedures and triggers, security, documentation, and statistical methods.
Consults with IT Development staff, vendor representatives, or outside consultants on overall database design and performance optimization issues.
Develops and documents database standards and procedures.
Monitors production databases with regards to space allocations and performance. Makes modifications to design or other tuning parameters in order to optimize efficiency and performance.
Makes modifications to database objects (tables, indexes, triggers, etc.) to support normal application growth or added functionality as required.
Assists in the installation and configuration of database software and upgrades on multiple platforms.
Designs and implements database backup and recovery procedures. Monitors daily backups to ensure successful completion and accuracy.
Applies, test, and verifies vendor patches to database software.
Creates test and development databases, and creates and executes procedures to populate these.
Manages database security and access changes.
Assists in the upgrade of existing production databases and in the migration of data to new servers.
Provides technical guidance and conducts training of lesssenior database support staff.
Performs other duties as requested by manager. Additional Information PPL is looking for a Oracle DBA with some MSSQL experience. They will primarily handle production and maintenance support. The position is open due to an increase in internal work. This is not growth, but they are moving an outsourced arrangement internally. DBA Position PPL Tom Sager
Location Allentown, PA
The opening is due to workload. They have an outsourcing contract they are terminating at the end of the year so they have been adding head count to adjust for that. Primarily someone who has expertise in Oracle. Mostly 11G, they will be moving to 11g.
The servers they are sitting on are, all Red Hat Linux need a certain level of confidence in a Unix/Linux environment
Combination of day to day maintenance and project work..on call rotation for a week once every 6 weeks
Tom would prefer someone with Strong Oracle DBA skills and some MSSQL. Someone with MSSQL as well would be highly considered. They have ticketing systems, but on occasion when on call they may receive a call directly from the customer. They will handle security ids, database links
Almost everything goes through the ticketing system, might get a call from service desk or help desk, A fair amount of level one work is coming in house. There is 5 people on this team. Mostly senior level resources. However, someone Mid level would do fine as long as they are growing into the position. No specific development skills..new database creations, IDs, creating tables and indexes, performance monitoring and tuning..all situational work depending on how big the projects are. No specific requirements for the type of environment they come from, but the larger the better. They have at least one extremely large database but there is a whole project team focusing on 10 plus gigs of data. DR experience would be helpful as they are evaluating their plan Brand new office environment with the cubes all together and they see a lot of benefits of them being there. Looking for team player and not comfortable with remote work..possibly on occasion.
