Bachelor's in computer science, MIS, engineering or related discipline
The Database Systems Architect position is technical work related to the administration of all computerized database management systems, data resources residing in those systems and the facilitation of data sharing among users. Work in this area involves the use of database software packages to ensure data integrity, consistency, security, recovery, database space management, and database schema management. Advanced knowledge of database systems required. Required to handle complex problems with little assistance. Heavily involved with developing procedures and standards to enable the continuous availability and improvement of the database assets. Heavily involved with database design and modeling techniques. Will be an active team member, may have leadership responsibilities of others.
Principle Duties and Responsibilities (including percentage of time) 30%Will be required to support enterprisewide, missioncritical databases with little support or assistance.
30%Will be involved with the planning, installation, implementation and configuration of company databases. Incumbent will be required to write necessary procedures and develop standards that will make these systems available 247. Will be required to participate in 247 on call support of company databases.
20%Will analyze and participate in the security and data integrity controls for all of the computerized database resources. Will participate in the analysis and design function for new and existing systems to ensure adherence to technical standards, data standards and integration with other applications. Will be involved with the planning and implementation of database backup and recovery procedures.
10%Will work across functional support areas to tune databases for optimal performance. Will be required to translate business requirements into technical requirements and assist other team members in implementing the solution. 10%May evaluate enterprise wide database infrastructure and develop detailed analysis reports and recommendations for those database systems. May be involved with the planning, design and implementation of databases on a variety of platforms. May participate in the planning, acquisition, and implementation of systems and application software. Communication with Internal IT Leaders (Frequently to solicit feedback and gain alignment)
Internal IT Associates (Frequently to idenfity and troubleshoot)
External vendor IT members (Occasionally for Vendor Management and project related tasks)
Advanced knowledge of operating systems, client/server architectures and standards.
Advanced knowledge of all currently used database applications.
Advanced knowledge of data modeling, logical and physical database design and implementation.
Good understanding of middleware standards, networking technology and protocols.
Advanced troubleshooting skills.
