Position Summary The ideal Data Analyst candidate will be a selfdirected individual, passionate about data and focused on delivering the right results. The DA will be responsible for researching, analyzing and translating business requirements into technical data design and data model. Technical aptitude, programming skills, effective oral and written communication skills, and the ability to present insights in a clear concise and effective manner are critical and necessary in this role.

Experience with the Software Development Life Cycle and ETL Processes. Technical expertise regarding data mining, database design development, data modelling, data governance and unit testing. Ability to analyze, identify, extract, translate and transform business requirements into data points. Document data requirements, definitions, data dependencies and relevant business rules through various methods including independent data analysis and group discussions.
Strong interpersonal and consultative skills to translate and understand reporting requirements. Ability to work as part of a team, as well as work independently or with minimal direction
Collaborate and work closely with Business analyst, System and Cloud data architects, ETL Integration specialists and Power BI dashboard development team to develop source to target technical mapping document.
Proficient in data transformation, consolidating data from multiple disparate sources, develop process workflows and wireframe sketches to help business design effective dashboard solutions. Design and develop data models using Erwin Data Modeler and apply best practices for optimum performance of the models.
Excellent communication and presentation skills and must possess exceptional ability to work well with individuals and teams at all levels, across all divisions.
Proficiency in developing creative Power point visual presentations to effectively communicate and articulate the value of analytic deliverables.
Demonstrate solid organizational and time management skills with ability to perform detailed tasks with high degree of accuracy and work and perform under pressure. Document project specific processes and data flows, data dependencies, data definitions and relevant business rules. Establish data dictionaries to support the buildout of a data governance infrastructure. Leverage industry best practices in establishing repeatable BI practices, principles & processes

Requirements Masters or Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Data Science, MIS, Mathematics or related area and Demonstrated analytical and computer proficiency necessary through a combination of work and class work. 5+ years of experience as a programmer, programmer/analyst, systems analyst, database analyst, database manager, or data warehouse specialist. Advanced relational database proficiency in SQL, with the ability to design and execute advanced database queries. Database experience in DB2, Microsoft SQL Server required.
Knowledge of various database platforms and experience with one or more of the following, Power BI, Informatica, Azure Cloud, IoT, MuleSoft, Splunk, AQT, ErWin Data Modeling.
Experience with warehouse data extraction/transformation and load tools, as well as metadata repository tools.
Proficient with MS Office tools like PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio, Excel and Word.
Strong written and oral communication skills. Additional Information KC Southern has several critical and ongoing projects including MCS modernization, PTC, Fuel Optimizer and other BI related projects.
This person will also be involved in day to day issues with the business doing data extracts, dashboards and ad hoc reports get data or modify existing reports. The DA will be involved in gathering additional requirements on the necessary data needs of the customer, analyzing this data, provide the necessary modeling and mapping of the data and even help with the data visualization. Source to target mapping is important; they are also looking for 1 lead / Sr. DA that may not be as hands on as the other 2, but will be responsible for assisting on the MCS modernization project (35 year project) and possibly leading the efforts of several other DA's as the project progresses.The Lead DA will also be involved with assisting with RFP creation and vendor selection for products to address their needs. 2 key project include 1) Vendor Customer Master (spend analytics) 360 degree view of customer customer hierarchy, visibility into M&A activity over the years, etc. there will be internal and external data; this doesn't exist today. 2) Advanced Analytics streaming data, some machine learning sensor data, information from the rails. The DA is the core of the team this is a working lead; will also need to create technical design documents, etc.
