Responsible for the configuration installation and support of oracle database systems along with monitoring performance health and the associated hardware within the production space. Support project management in the implementation of software/hardware upgrades and system installs in accordance with established IT policies procedures and Service Level Agreements (SLA). Deploys production code in a high availability environment. Practice Capacity Management with regards to evaluating systems usage and performance with a goal of being proactive in identify system problems. Install configure and fine tune production oracle systems and server settings in an effort to achieve optimum levels of performance Ensures server data integrity by evaluating and managing the appropriate software/hardware solutions. Deploy PSU/CPU patches in an effort keep oracle environments up-to-date with the latest releases Ensures systems compliance with company requirements through the implementation auditing and adherence to policies procedures and security standards. Manage on-call responsibilities in a 24/7 environment and provide first line of defense to system and application issues Strong ability to work positively with team members vendors and external/internal customers. Work as liaison between the application development staff and the technical support teams to provide architecture support training performance tuning standards production control tools and application server administration. Assist in monitoring identifying and resolving infrastructure and oracle technical issues in both production and non-production environments. Troubleshoot and resolve critical and minor issues detected via monitoring or during system analysis Respond within define SLA requirements in relation to system issues Complete projects and tasks as assigned Conduct security risk assessments that include but not limited to monitoring investigation and reporting of security and access violationsDescription
The Oracle Database Administrator calls for an individual with the experience to perform a wide variety of operational and engineering tasks in the areas of Oracle database administration. This position not only requires the execution of a wide array of duties, but includes the responsibility in providing technical leadership within the scope of handling project implementations, infrastructure maintenance/support and maintaining one’s expertise’s in their assigned roles and responsibilities – detailed below.
Under general direction, the ideal candidate will be part of the infrastructure dba team providing hands-on infrastructure support to mission critical database tiers in the production space. This candidate must have the fundamental oracle technology experience to cover all aspects of database administration and engineering
Responsibilities
- Execute/manage projects and participate on IT and non-IT project teams as necessary.
- Work with business units to implement web content moves/additions/changes that accommodate the business unit's requirements and all three tiers.
- Investigate and implement new technology to reduce cost and/or increase performance, availability, reliability, and efficiency of systems and processes.
- Create and maintain server and application documentation
- Work with the IT Service Center to improve their problem tracking effectiveness through training, documentation, and process modifications.
- As part of the team, design, implement, configure, test, and maintain the infrastructure to maximize operational uptime and performance.
- Work with vendors to understand applications of their products as it relates to infrastructure systems and services.
- Provide technical assistance and escalation support to local departments.
- Coordinate with other departments for new service introduction and supervise the implementation of technology field trials.
- Study industry trends and information on technological advances and make recommendations on application of these technologies for standard use in the company’s network to include technical briefings to upper level management.
Educational Requirements
- o perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required
- Minimum 7 years of related experience in an Oracle production environment is required.
- Communications and constructive personal interaction with customers and peers in a high-energy environment is necessary.
- Expert knowledge of HA tools that include RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and Golden Gate
- Expert knowledge of RMAN backups, experience in backup, recovery, and disaster recover methodologies and best practices
- Extensive experience from an OS perspective with regards to Oracle Enterprise Linux, Red Hat, and Sun Solaris.
- Demonstrated hands on experience with Oracle 11g and 12C
- Demonstrated experience with both physical and logical backup designs as it relates to RMAN and DataPump
- Demonstrated hands on experience Grid Control that includes the installation and upgrade of the application
- Proven patching experience as it relates to Oracle RAC environments
- Expert in Data Guard technology as it relates to stand alone and RAC systems
- Must have excellent working knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft Office tools.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to work under general direction.
- Ability to present project status, both orally and written.
- Demonstrated hands on experience opening case with Oracle and managing issues to resolution
- Experience in writing automation scripts to support routine maintenance and monitoring
- Must have experience with RDBM security as it relates to roles, permission, and general application security
- Strong Troubleshooting/Root Cause Analysis Skills as it relates to RAC, RMAN, DataGuard, and SQL.
