The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for defining and supporting engineering solutions in support of all initiatives. This position requires strong capabilities to drive the technical direction for multi-disciplined technical teams deploying and supporting network services, including but not limited to routers, switches, load balancers, firewalls, VoIP, proxy servers, remote access devices, DNS servers, FTP servers, NTP servers, SIP services, traditional PBX services, and authentication systems. Responsibilities include translating complex business requirements and aligning the appropriate Infrastructure solution to support business needs. The Sr. Network Engineer has responsibility for delivering Network Services Infrastructure solutions support at the enterprise level (multiple products and systems). Accountability includes planning, design, implementation, and testing activities, to create production-ready configurations in the delivery of all Network Services Infrastructure via business focused projects. The position will provide technical support in developing methodology, process, and standards for measuring network and application related key performance indicators such as end to end application response time, latency and overall through-put. The Sr. Network Engineer is also accountable for the effectiveness, quality of service, performance tuning, capacity management, and implementation success of the Network Services Infrastructure. This position is a member of a team that demands a high level of commitment and dedication.
Responsibilities
- Education: Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or 5-7 years of equivalent experience
- CCNP (or greater) certification in Route/Switch or Voice.
- Strong organizational, technical and communication skills.
- Well versed in Cisco routing, switching, MPLS, and Security as demonstrated by a minimum of 5-7 years of experience working with such equipment.
- Extensive knowledge and experience with technical security controls and vulnerabilities including Authentication systems, Virtual Private Networks, Vulnerability scanners, Firewalls, and other network security devices.
- Extensive knowledge and experience installing, analyzing, and troubleshooting networking technology including TCP/IP, Routers, Switching, VLANs, LANs, WANs and Wireless systems.
- Strong project management skills including requirements analysis, project scoping, problem solving, status reporting, technical analysis, and meeting tight deadlines.
- Strong technical consulting skills including making recommendations in both written and oral form, leading training for clients and peers, understanding client work practices and showing initiative when confronted with urgent and complex technical dilemmas.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in direction-setting for Network Services Infrastructure for the enterprise.
- Proven leadership in defining, and the maintenance of, Network Voice and Data Services Infrastructure standards.
- Track record of establishing the technology direction and management of the implementation of standardized Network data and voice Services Infrastructure.
- Proven, extensive troubleshooting skills in a complex multi-location LAN & WAN environment.
- Experience with mentorship and training of less experience associates.
- Experience with deploying tools and methodologies to monitor application and network performance on a 24x7 basis and reporting any performance degradation or bottleneck.
- Provide escalation and support for troubleshooting and resolution of all data and voice issues as required by other infrastructure support teams.
Educational Requirements
- Extensive Experience in Layer 2 and Layer 3 technologies.
- Network Planning, Installation, and Administration (7-9 Years).
- Knowledge of MPLS WAN, VPN, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP (5-7 Years).
- Experience with load Balancers (Cisco ACE, F5), Security (Firewalls, IPS, ACL’s).
- Understanding of Cisco VoIP services (SIP, QOS) (2-3 Years).
- Experience with Cisco, Aruba or other equivalent wireless technology platforms.
- Experience maintaining TCP/IP Networks (5-7 Years).
- Extensive knowledge and experience with Leading Edge Network Infrastructure Services, Technologies and Best-In-Class Engineering Practices.
- Extensive experience with network design and implementation.
- In depth knowledge of TCP/IP networking, data communications, network infrastructure and operating systems, DNS network/internet protocols (SMTP, HTTP, SNMP, Windows Domain services).
- In depth knowledge of LAN/WAN architectures (such as SoNET, MPLS, VPN, T1, T3) and protocols (such as BGP, RIP, OSPF, HSRP) and technologies.
- Extensive experience with switches and routers, including switch and load balancer design, configuration, administration, troubleshooting and support.
- In depth knowledge of network operating systems and trouble-shooting techniques and related diagnostic hardware and software tools (i.e. probes, sniffers).
- Experience with business continuity planning.
- Experience working with international vendors, telecommunications, customers and networking a plus.
- Demonstrated effective decision-making, problem solving, analytical and communication skills.
- Must possess a high level of initiative and self-motivation.
- Ability to work independently and effective at building partnerships to facilitate the accomplishment of goals.
- Familiarity with organizational policies, business requirements for information security, contractual issues, and the regulations related to information security. Should have some basic understanding of intellectual property issues, protection, and retention of organizational records and common compliance standards for information protection such as SOX and PCI.
- Strong organizational/time-management skills.
- General knowledge and experience of business processes, practices, and organizational structures.
- Effective at planning and leading meetings to accomplish stated goals and objectives.
