Responsibilities

• Build and improve features to drive Rhino’s explosive growth
• Understand Rhino products at a deep technical level, and become a subject matter expert
• Be a strong advocate for excellent coding practices as well as user experience
• Design and lead the implementation of new products
• Craft and architect secure, compliant, performant, and delightful solutions with complex requirements.
• Provide feedback on features being developed across the company and suggest solutions.
• Participate in code reviews, standups, and planning sessions, while listening to feedback and commenting on others’ approaches. Mentor/train junior engineers
• Use Ruby, TypeScript, SQL, React.JS and other languages day-to-day
• Collaborate with design, product management, marketing, sales, and compliance to help plan and implement new initiatives
• Help choose tools, technologies, and patterns for new products.
• Be a trusted member of the team where your voice is heard and respected
• Build and improve features to support our renter customers and landlord partners.
• Mentor and help level up junior engineers and contractors
• Humble partner with others on our team and throughout the company

Educational Requirements

• Tech stack:
• Ruby on Rails
• Deploy via Heroku
• React.js for UI
• No CAB or change control. As soon as change made goes to production
• All engineers do design (prob solve to provide a solution) and deploy their own code and QA their own code
• Rhino’s platform integrates with property management systems and they build those use cases (especially if it’s a larger property with thousands of units with greater opportunity to sell more policies to). After Rhino gets resident data, Rhino invites them to buy rental deposit insurance and renters insurance
• Rhino is a business to business (Rhino to property management company) and a business to consumer company (Rhino to renter)
• Biggest challenge is performance of the Rhino platform (rack time).
• Architecture is in a good spot to scale, but they do not have microservices yet
• We are a remote company with full CICD to production
• Team: 25 total engineers, 10 contractors (onshore/offshore)
• 4 scrum teams of about 4-6 engineers each (agile scrum environment).
• Team 1: Customer Acquisition (how do we get data from property manager/landlords and get people to buy deposit insurance/renters insurance)
